Wireless Thermometer

I bought this from Marine Depot recently, and wanted to show you what it looks like:

The probe is submerged in the water. The wire is maybe 24" long. The black section houses two AAA batteries. It must not get wet.


The receiver can be wherever it is convenient. Up to 40' away, I believe.


You can have several probes to track multiple tanks with one receiver. I'm keeping the receiver on my desk where I spend my online time. Current temp as of now is 80.1F

I've had one of those for about 2 years now. The wireless part works great though I can't comment on the temp part since I've never compared it to anything. I've always assumed it was telling me the correct temp. I had the batteries only last a month or so a couple of times but I think that was because I was using some cheap no name batteries. The current ones have been in there for probably six months and are still working.

I did try it on my upstairs tank but it wouldn't reach the reciever downstairs so it was a no go for adding a second probe unit.

I've been considering picking one of these up and was hoping the Pinpoint name = accuracy. Seems like a good investment as my Little Time/Little Temp is off by at least 2F.

I could also monitor both tanks at once! Or sump and both tanks - with up to 4 remotes it's pretty neat.

Marc does your red light come on when the transmitter is sending temp data? I just got one and the light never comes on.

I just posted in your other thread.

I think it comes on at a specific interval, like maybe once a minute? I have it kind of hidden in a spot in the reef room where I can't see the light unless I pull it out into the open.

i use this for water changes and acclimation, the temp seems to be 1 degreee off on my unit so i just match temps for water changes. Otherwise this is a great unit for the price.

The unit I have is not working so I and sending back today to exchange for another one. I really like the idea of having a remote temp monitor as that will make it easier to monitor. If this works out well I Plan to get another Transmitter for our other tank.

Just curious how much extra did you have to spend for the wireless feature? And what do you think the range limits are? One poster said his upstair tank was out of range is that right with everyone's?

Did not pay any more as the unit comes with one transmitter you pay for any additional units. The system will handle a total of 4 remote units. Here is a link.

The specs say that they are good for 100 feet.

A unit placed in the center of a 10,000 SF house should more than cover to all points on a radius (assuming a 100 X 100 square ). Bigger than nearly everyone's house in DFW. So why did a poster say it did not go upstairs or was out of range upstairs?

Sounds like the specs are a tad optimistic. Any thoughts on what the practical limits are? What are ideal conditions. Do you think walls and floors interfere with transmission? If you hold it in your hand and walk into the garage does it lose connection for example?
