My new black sand

My new black sand

I changed out the sand in my nano to tahitian moon...I love it! New aquascaping too! I have some microbubble issues from the new skimmer I put in it, so sorry for the crappy pictures. And everything was asleep when I turned the lights on and took the picture so they are all closed up.

It looks much better with the black sand. Take another picture when your fish are awake, so they can smile for us.

Hey, love the look with the black sand! Do you get a mirror effect from the black sand when you view your tank? It doesn't look like it from your photos. I'd like to try the black sand too, but worried it would create too much of a mirror?

Nope, no mirror effect. It makes the coraline algae stand out and look more vibrant as well as my purple tube anenome and kenya tree. That's what I was really looking for, I wanted it to frame everything in the tank. Between the black background and black sand it makes everything stand out more.

Found it at Petsmart, $19.99 for a 20lb bag. I used the whole bag and this nano is 24 gallons, hopefully that will give you some perspective. And I rinsed the heck out of it!

I just re-did my aquascaping on my nano, like the sand and should of thought of replacing my sandbed with the black sand. But I would of been taking out a 1 1/2 year old live sand bed and would have had to started from the beginning so I would of lost out in this area.

Yeah, I feel you. I did it because the sand that was in the tank when I bought it from its previous owner STUCK TO EVERYTHING!
Everytime I tried to move anything around, including powerheads, the sand got everywhere and stuck like glue! Established or not, I was going to change that sand, and I loved the idea of the nano being cmpletely black so that everything would stand out.

Yeah I have been using Tahitian Moon for a few years now and it makes your rocks corals and better yet clams really stand out!!!

The only complaint I have its that it takes a lot more effort to maintain Calicium, Alk and Ph than it did before when I was using argonite....
