Re: Finally for sale, cheap LED Retrofit systems!!!You may just try running them without optics and see how they look. If your tank is deeper than 20", I think the 60° optics will work. If it is less depth than that, then 90°s will work. I am currently low on stock, but am working on getting more in ASAP.

Re: Finally for sale, cheap LED Retrofit systems!!!I found a new supplier for the optics, same brand, same price, faster service. I now have thousands of 120°, 90°, 60°, and 30° all in stock.
If you are not sure what angle optic to use, consider 120° if you are running a tank less than 12" deep; 90° if the tank is 12"- 30"; 60° if the tank is 20"-40"; and 30° if the tank is 30"+. These have been tested on the Epistar and Luxeon and Luxeon ES LEDs. These also work with other LEDs, all it takes is a miniscule dab of old fashioned hot-glue! Yes, the size recommendations overlap because there is not really a perfect answer. Everything depends on how the LEDs are arranged in the hood, the types of corals you are trying to grow with respect to the placement in their tank, and what type of LED you have. If you need a specific recommendation, please feel free to shoot me an email. I also have a new constant current driver in stock that can drive a single 3 watt LED. It is an all-in-one (think Meanwell), which means you have a plug into your wall on one end, and leads to the LED on the other end, no separate power supply. They are chinese made units, but hey, I can't even make them as cheap as I am selling them for. The footprint is approximately 2" x 3", nice and tiny. This is a perfect match for a 1-2 gallon pico tank, or better yet, awesome moonlights! Nothing looks better than having a royal blue 3 watt LED as moonlight. All of these gimmicky 3 bulb moonlighting systems can confuse fish and corals, because there is only a single moon visible in the ocean, right? A single 3 Watt LED is enough moonlight for up to a 210 gallon tank. Anything larger than that, will need two. Sorry, no dimming feature on this little guy. I'll sell them at minimal profit, just like all of my other new items. How does $5.99 sound for an all in one single LED driver? Treat your special fish and corals a mid-summer present - a new moonlight! - The drivers will be posted on the website in just a few days. ( I will also make a combo package for a mini heatsink as part of the moonlight system to take all of the guesswork out of it. Although, if you already have a main LED light system just mount it to the existing heatsink using some of our new thermal adhesive.) Marine ArtworkI am now carrying a line of original hand painted marine artwork by Nate Wilson. I know it is not LED related, but it is incredibly realistic, and it is at a great price for REAL ART. They are all painted on heavy canvas.
Most of the artwork I have come across, shows saltwater fish with their fins extended and the fish just look look terrified....although this might look nice to someone not familiar with saltwater fish, I would never hang this stuff on the wall in my home. I just don't like seeing painted fish looking like they are about to have a heart attack! The marine artwork I'm am now selling is 100% realistic, and shows the fish in a genuine setting, and has absolutely incredible attention detail. Check it out! Here's a list of fish: Bandit Angel Firefish Kole Tang Luzon Anthias Sacura Anthias Queen Angel http://shop.stevesleds.com/Marine-Art_c28.htm Currently the price is set at cost for DFWMAS members, so you can get an amazing deal. Re: Finally for sale, cheap LED Retrofit systems!!!I have a question Steve.
I am building a 29 gallon that is 30" x 12" x 18" tall. I want to keep everything from SPS to clams. How many LED's do you recommend or which kit of yoir's do you recommend? Thanks. Logan D.

Re: Finally for sale, cheap LED Retrofit systems!!!Is this a Biocube type tank? We have had really good results with 28 of the Luxeon ES LEDs. Check out this kit http://shop.stevesleds.com/SPS-Grade-LED-Retrofit-Kit-Package-24-32-tanks-SPS-Retrofit-Kit-24-32.htm You'll have enough light to grow absolutely anything anywhere within the tank, expecially the sandbed.

Re: Finally for sale, cheap LED Retrofit systems!!!
WOW.....NICE! Thank you!
Re: Finally for sale, cheap LED Retrofit systems!!!Can you control the biocube retro with an apex?
Re: Finally for sale, cheap LED Retrofit systems!!!Definitely! Steve's LEDs drivers are all digital, and a PWM dimming signal is also digital, so you could plug the PWM signal directly into the driver and have it work perfectly. If your aquarium controller uses an old-school analog signal (like the Apex), you will need the aquarium controller harness to convert the signal to digital. http://shop.stevesleds.com/Aquarium-Con ... arness.htm
On the other hand, if you have an Arduino handy, I can send you some software and use can use the Arduino to convert the analog signal to digital. Thanks! Re: Finally for sale, cheap LED Retrofit systems!!!Steve what do you think of the Berquist Thermal Pads that some are using to adhere the LEDs to the heatsink? Seems it would be much easier to assemble and no drying time.
TB Tom

Re: Finally for sale, cheap LED Retrofit systems!!!I have used those and have experimented with them. They just don't take the heat away like the adhesive does. That means the LEDs run hotter and have a shorter life. I also had a few start to peel away after a couple weeks, likely because I didn't put the 30lbs of required pressure on them as suggested.
It takes about 1 hour of time to install about 56 LEDs with adhesive, no breaks required, just sit back an wait 12 hours to cure. It takes about 4 hours of time to properly install 56 LEDs with the pads, not counting breaks, plus sore thumbs for two days. The one-part adhesive I sell is WAY cheaper too! I recommend using the adhesive, waiting 12 hours, and sleep soundly knowing your LEDs are going to last forever. Thanks! Finally for sale, cheap LED Retrofit systems!!!Steve,
If money was tight and I came into a set of your 24v led arrays would I still be able to "safely" use them? If so what and any precautions should I take? If 24v is unsafe do you offer any kind of trade in credit for your drivers? Thanks
Re: Finally for sale, cheap LED Retrofit systems!!!99taws6, We are currently usinng 24V (25V technically) drivers. We used to use 48V drivers, is that what you have? If so, we do have a trade in program where you can swap them out and purchase the new 25V drivers at a significantly reduced price.

Re: Finally for sale, cheap LED Retrofit systems!!!I need 12 3w led for my refugium. I already a mean LPC-35-700 driver. Whats the best temp to get? Cool White or neutral white. Or half and half. PM me with price. thanks..
Re: Finally for sale, cheap LED Retrofit systems!!!When growing plants, cool white LEDs don't work as well. I currently have neutral white Epistar 3W LEDs on clearance for $2.29/ea. This particular LED has been proven in many refuguims, with outrageous macro algae and mangrove growth.

Re: Finally for sale, cheap LED Retrofit systems!!!
I think I remember that Steve suggested (at meeting) red leds in the refugium as well for fast growth. Formerly known as escaudio
Re: Finally for sale, cheap LED Retrofit systems!!!That is correct, Red LEDs do promote both macro and micro (nuisance) algae growth. The white LEDs alone seem to keep the micro algae under control a little better at the cost of slightly slower overall growth. You just have to pick your preference knowing you can't have the best of every aspect, frustratingly!

Re: Finally for sale, cheap LED Retrofit systems!!!We just received Philips response to the Cree XML LEDs. The newest Luxeon ES Royal Blue has an ultra low, iridescence popping wavelenth of 440nm, running at a super efficient 2.75V, and is now 20% brighter - a whopping 1390mn of actinic power!

Re: Finally for sale, cheap LED Retrofit systems!!!
Hi Steve! I just got my 2 Luxeon white, and 11 Luxeon "royal blue" installed in a strip and hung next to a similar strip of Crees, and the Luxeon strip looks slightly violet, not blue. And I put the optics I got from you on them, and the Cree optics on the Crees, and the light given off by the Luxeon royal blues looks to me to be a lot less than given off by the Cree royal blues. These Luxeon whites look to be a bit brighter than the Cree whites, though. Are these Luxeon royal blues really royal blues, or should they be called violet? And is it because of the optics that the Cree RB look so much brighter than the Luxeons? These Luxeon RBs are not blue like the Crees, or the Epistars that I got from you. The Epistar RB look to be the same color as the Crees, too. Both of these strips are driven by the same type of Meanwell driver. If I had known that these were not really royal blue, I would have got the Crees instead. Please tell me why I should like these violet LEDs better than the royal blue Crees! Thank you! Re: Finally for sale, cheap LED Retrofit systems!!!
I haven't heard back from Steve on here, but I think I see what is happening. The Luxeon whites have so much red spectrum that 2 white with the 11 royal blue Luxeons leaves you with a violet color. It's purple. Maybe that is good, and maybe I will end up happy with it, I don't know. But 440 nm, come to find out, is violet. The 440 nm "royal blues" look blue alright, but they are not near as bright as the Crees that I have, and the white Luxeons are washing them out. I thought that these were supposed to be brighter than the Crees! I think it is the other way around! I am driving both strings with the same kind of driver, too. Re: Finally for sale, cheap LED Retrofit systems!!!
His honesty cannot be, could not be, and was never questioned! And now I see how very blue these LEDs are as well! I blocked off the light momentarily from the white ones, and these are the bluest royal blue LEDs that I have seen! Without the 2 whites among the 11 RB, it is way way way too blue! And when I shifted this string above my RBTA tank, they look even better than with the string of Crees that I've had there all along! And I can place the Cree string above my zoa tank, and have the blue color for them that I like best. It is all working out very nicely! And since I want to grow macro in with the anemones, the "redder" white LEDs will help with growth as well. The green really comes out under this light! Thanks Steve for the great product, and great service!!!!!!! David -- 65g w/aragocrete, DSB w/2/3 plenum, 6 39w T5s, 4 12watt StevesLEDs Epistar royal blue spotlights
