Re: October Tank Tour?

Sounds like a Wes question to me Pete.

Our tank is going to be all confused the big lights don't normally come on till 2pm. Ohh well it will be kewl

You might want to shift your schedule gradually now, so it will be awake in the morning period. Mine will be the same way since my lights don't start until 1pm. I'll do the same.

I plan to participate (at least for part of the tour) -- not sure I can make the entire trip.

Pete - thanks for setting up the schedule.

I want to participate as a viewer as well. I only have a nanocube, so the tank tour would take roughly 4 minutes :)

Hey all. I have a conflict that just came up. A coworker of 16 years is getting married next weekend in the afternoon in Prosper. I am very excited about the tank tour and would love to show my tank, but cannot that late in the day. A reversal of the order of the tour is the only way it would work. I do not want to inconvenience anyone by any means and will respectfully back out of the tour if need be. Apologizies in advance for the late notice.

I hope there is a way we can see dradrenaline's tank. Would it be possible to reverse the order of the tour? Also, I'll be by myself on the tour. If anyone wants to ride along say so. I'm in Benbrook.

it sounds like we lost 3 or down to 4 tanks
I'm still game and will ask a couple others on or near the route to see if they will add to the list to show, otherwise it may just be a 1/2 day tour

I'll finalize the itinerary Thu night

October Tank Tour?

Postby ERIKATHORNBURG on Thu Oct 27, 2011 9:57 pm

My husband and I would like to join you guys for some of the tour Saturday. I don't know if we will make the first one or two, but we love seeing other people's tanks. Should we leave the kids home or bring them along?

kids are usually okay

the tour will remain as I posted earlier - I tried to get a couple more people but to no avail
it should make for a nice 1/2 day event ending at Marcs or Franks around 12:30

looking forward to seeing everyone

Once our tank is a little older, we will participate. We just had to start over here when we relocated here and this time around the tank is only 11 months old.

Frags are growning like mad. I need to start a tread with pictures. I plan to add more frags at the frag swap.

We don't have a display fuge. Although i have thought that would be awesome to do with as much as i sit with the tank door open Checking out all the critters in our fuge. The small tank is just a cube display that is tied into our system. We finally got a new ballast from Mike on here just this week for it and have it ready for an anemome and clowns.

Re: October Tank Tour?

It was suggested to move the tour out a bit (maybe an hour) and to provide a little more time for tank viewing (no so rush rush and allows for some personal time)

So currently let's set the schedule as follows with 40 minutes per tank

Pete’s 10:00 - 10:40
- 31 minute drive
Brian's 11:11 - 11:51
- 30 minute drive
Henry's 12:21 - 1:01
- 11 minute drive
Marc's 1:12 - 1:52
Franks Tanks and/or lunch after for those that want to

Any other thoughts or preferences?
Any questions from the viewers to those presenting?

Also for those presenting I suggest posting here a general description of your tank, how long you had it, maybe what you like or don't like about your system. This way it may spark some good questions and or dialogs

thanks.

Re: October Tank Tour?

Postby Marc on Fri Oct 28, 2011 4:35 pm

I run a mixed reef with SPS, LPS, anemones, clams, fish and more. I have over 60 fish in my tank currently, mostly tiny ones.

Image
400g Marineland Starphire Reef. Custom-made with an external overflow that has five 1.5" drains.
Powder-coated steel stand with removable walkboard.
Custom-made sump and refugium 58" x 31.5" x 17"
Euroreef protein skimmer, Nextreef SMR reactors, Lifereef Calcium reactor.
Running Biopellets since day one, and carbon in a separate reactor.
Tank is 9 months old next weekend.
Twin Dart pumps for return and to feed a manifold system.
45g Auto Top-off Reservoir under tank to replace evaporation for more than a week away.
250g Polytank holds saltwater at all times for emergencies, water changes, quarantine, and bagging corals.
Aquacontroller 3 wired to router; accessed via iPad or iPhone any time.
Flow is provided with twin Penductors on the return custom-made assembly, as well as two MP60 and one MP40 Vortech pumps.

Image
Lighting is 250w-400w-250w MH with VHO super actinics. The entire light rack holds everything, and rolls out of the way.
Lighting schedule is staggered:
VHOs from 11am to 10pm, LED moonlights from 10pm to 11pm
Metal Halide (right end) runs from 1pm to 7pm
Metal Halide (middle) runs from 2:15pm to 8:15pm
Metal Halide (left end) runs from 3:30pm to 9:30pm
High noon (All lights on at once) runs from 3:30pm to 7pm daily

Refugium lighting runs 9 hours a day, using a 6500K LED lighting from UniqueLEDLighting, one of our sponsors.

10g Frag tank is tied into the reef, allowing me to place new frags in the system before I can putty them in place.
Frag tank is lit with a 14,000K Evolution LED fixture from Reefkoi.

Quarantine tank holds 14g of water, using a powerhead, heater, some LED lights, and some live rock.

The fishroom was a DIY project, complete with pouring concrete, erecting walls, installing six new circuits to a subpanel and new plumbing for a (future) sink. The floor has a french drain to drain any water down the driveway.

Cooling is done via the home's HVAC as well as a 120mm Icecap fan plugged into a timer.
Heating is with two 300w heaters (extra 300w heater for very cold nights).
During a power outage, Ecotech battery backups run the Vortechs, and a generator runs everything including household needs.

I feed my reef 3 times a day. Water parameters average out nicely. I do a water change about every two months.

I'll have the lights on early for everyone tomorrow.

The only reason I'm listing it in this thread is because it will be the easier time to take care of this with my house being the last stop and you'll be visiting: I will have Fungia plates for sale, at least 10 at $10 each. And feather caulerpa at $5 a bag.

Dayam all the info I can give you about our tank is...

It's a 55 with a CPR sump. Just added an external Octo skimmer Thurs
Lights are run by a 660 Icecap 4 T5 with 2 Icecap single blue LED's for night.

Have had the tank up and running just over a year now and we have mostly
Zoa's, Leathers, and a few lps that we struggle with.

4 fish 2 Goby, 1 Cardinal 1 Coris Wrasse. 5 shrimp 3 Peppermint 1 Cleaner
and 1 Candy Pistol.

Not much compared to the other two shown but it's a part of the spectrum
in the hobby of ours. Glad to be a part of this group that's showing their
pride and joy.

See Y'all shortly.
55 Reef, 140 in the work's, tank clean up has began.
