Jim Walters
Topic - "Unusual Fishes for Nano and Pico Reef Aquariums"
Jim Walters has literally spent his life with his hands in the water. Jim has worked in the aquarium industry since his early teens, giving him over 20 years experience in the retail and wholesale aspects of this hobby. He is also an avid diver, and has ventured on collection trips as far away as Fiji giving him the opportunity learn yet another aspect of aquarium keeping -- responsible collection.
Currently Jim is co-owner of Chicago’s Old Town Aquarium, one of the nation’s leading aquatic emporiums for beginning aquarists through seasoned collectors for over 30 years. Old Town Aquarium has been retailing nano reef aquariums for over 20 of these 30 years. During this time Jim as had the opportunity to handle and care for some of the aquarium industries’ most rarely imported animals – including many firsts, some that have never been scientifically described.
While at Old Town Aquarium, Jim has had the opportunity to supply animals and design exhibits for some of Chicago’s leading public aquariums and museums. He takes great pride providing rare and “new” animals to many industry professionals and photographers, in being named #1 by Chicago magazine, and appearing in The Wall Street Journal, Chicago Tribune, Chicago SunTimes, and C… The Journal. He has also appeared on ABC, CBS, and Fox news, and additional has done aquatic production work for TV and Hollywood.

Kevin Kohen - Director of Live Aquaria
Topic - Topic- Construction and Operation of Drs. Foster and Smith’s 20,000 Gallon Marine Life Facility with a Focus on Sustainability.
Kevin Kohen earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Wright State University, and is an avid marine life photographer, lifelong aquarist and marine fish enthusiast. He was one of the early pioneers maintaining live corals in captivity back in the early 80’s. He began his professional career in the marine fish industry working in a retail fish store, and then moved on to manage the operations of one of the largest freshwater and marine fish wholesale and import/export businesses in the Midwest for over eight years. From there, he ventured on to launch the LiveAquaria.com web site, and designed and oversaw the installation of the Drs. Foster & Smith Aquaculture Coral & Marine Life Facility. He currently oversees the operations of the facility, and is responsible for the acquisition of the animals, as well as their husbandry. Kevin is also one of the writers for Reef Life Magazine with his bi-monthly column titled “The Fish Monger”, which details unusual and interesting marine fishes available in the aquarium trade.
Dr. Ron Shimek
Topic - "Current Thoughts About Corals" A talk about water currents and feeding in corals, tying together some of Dr. Shimeks recent research as well as some good research from the scientific community.

Joe Yaiullo

Joseph Yaiullo is one of the world’s most highly regarded Aquarium authorities. He has consulted with many public Aquariums worldwide, and has also presented reef-keeping lectures throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe.
Prior to co-founding Atlantis Marine World, Yaiullo worked with the Riverhead Foundation for Marine Research and Preservation, and served as Exhibits Director at the Okeanos Ocean Research Foundation. While working as a Senior Aquarist with the New York Aquarium, he played an integral role in the design and construction of the 22,000-square foot Discovery Cove building, winner of the 1990 American Zoo and Aquarium Association Certificate of Achievement award.
Joe Yaiullo is a graduate of Southampton College, Long Island University (Southampton, NY).

But I have also found that when it is not rush hour the longest drive is about 40 min.
Where just over a month ago we drove from Orange country to Hollywood and it took over two hours and that was on a Sunday morning.
