BTA Shriveled Up

BTA Shriveled Up

Postby ldreefer on Tue Sep 06, 2011 10:15 pm

Hey Guys,

I got a BTA on Saturday and it has been great since then up until today - my clown is hosting it and everything was going smoothly. Today it is shriveled up and droopy looking and the mouth is wide open. I fed it a half of a table shrimp yesterday. Do you think it is expelling waste since it ate yesterday or is there something else going on? It still has all of its color. The tips are bright green and the base is rose. Its tentacles are still moving, they are just short and stringy looking.

My params are great. Just tested them tonight.

Any help you guys can offer would be greatly appreciated.

If it is spitting out stringy stuff from it's mouth that is usually a bad sign. Can you post some pictures? Also, can you post what the water parameters are?
Alk?
Nitrate?
pH?
temperature swing?

Pictures will help.
How mature is the tank?
You are already feeding with it just now trying to get acclimated to your tank?

I thought giving it a piece of shrimp would help it feel more comfortable?

It doesn't stay shriveled up either. It will shrivel up and then after a while it will go back to normal. Is that normal for the acclimating process?

In my experience, the behavior that your are seeing is normal.

That's good to hear. I think it's ok because last night it was huge and looked even healthier than when I bought it.

mine will blow up to about 5 to 6 in or larger and then go down to the size of a golf ball so you should be good.

Yeah he is just a moody little sucker. :p

He is huge and fine now. It seems like he just has his days.

Guess he must take after my girlfriend... [smilie=rofl.gif]
