It looks like a nice location but OMG - does anyone in Fort Worth have a plane so we can fly over there. I thought the world dropped off before you got that far north.

Living in Carrollton I find many of these postings funny since I drive all the way to Frank’s Tanks and other locations in Fort Worth. But I have also found that when it is not rush hour the longest drive is about 40 min. Now we could live in LA where there is distance and traffic. Where just over a month ago we drove from Orange country to Hollywood and it took over two hours and that was on a Sunday morning. And what about the people who drive from out of town and even out of state. If the event is worth it, it is worth a short drive. But that is just me and I have been known to be a little .

I totlally agree David. This type of discussion happens often enough, and I just let them have their say. It doesn't matter where a meeting or event it located, someone will always have a long drive.
So what? We only have Next Wave once a year. So be it.

I have a long drive but I don't care, looks like a beautiful place and I still plan on attending. My first thought was wow I'm gonna have to get up early for this one. This years Next Wave as my first club event that I attended and had a great time so I will not miss this one even if it is across the world.

I think it's pretty safe to say that I have the longest drive haha. I'll still make the trip up though.
On a side note, how are yall deciding who the speakers are going to be? Are you wanting recommendations? Or do yall already have some people in mind you'll be approaching?

Speaker recommendations are always welcome. Generally the BOD decides and contacts potential speakers and we go from there.

Being the first person to respond to Matt's announcement, and the first one to bring up the "less driving" topic, I feel somewhat responsible for turning this thread into a "nag fest" and pit the westside folks against the eastside folks, even though I think most posts were made in jest. That certainly wasn't my intention. I did have a smiley in my original post.
My post was more about me having to come from "up north" in Frisco where everywhere in town, except Ikea :-), seems to be a long drive. Shoot, even the Dallas MAS meetings are a relatively long drive for me.

I'd like to hear what this author has to say. I enjoyed this book and his stories of his graduate work in the Keys. I don't know if he gives lectures but perhaps we can find out.
Natural Reef Aquariums: Simplified Approaches to Creating Living Saltwater Microcosms
by John H. Tullock
I read his book early on before understanding what I was doing and half the book was great and entertaining, the other half was dry and I didn't get it at all. Perhaps now that I've been doing this for awhile it would make more sence.

Cool, well here are my recommendations:
Calfo to talk about Coral Propagation
Fenner to crack us all up
Tyree to talk about aquaculture? or something like that? I don't even know if he does this kinda thing. I just always see his name at the beginning of my favorite corals
Jim Stime Jr. I recently read a pretty cool article in the most recent Reef Hobbyist Mag about his success with keeping Jellyfish. I think it would be cool to hear more about it. Again, I'm not sure if this is his kinda thing.
Sprung could talk about a variety of different things.
That's all I can think of right now...I'm sure I'll come up with more soon.

It can't be any different from driving from here to CRASE in OK City to make that event on time.

I've recommended her in the past. I still think Leslie Harris from the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County would be an excellent speaker. She has over 30 years of experience with inverts, especially worms, and is very active on RC in the invert forums. Here's a link to her museum:

What about some speakers in the field of lighting, such as LED. I know this is a new topic and I find it hard to find stuff that is of credible nature toward saltwater or fresh.
Another would be how to attach your home pc to your tank and get information sent to it and make that more than just purchasing stuff. Im not saying build your own detectors but, if there are ways of doing some of this on the cheep as we are all now budget strapped it would be of interest.
Thanks,
Zaphod

Happy to announce that Kevin Kohen, Director of Live Aquaria will be coming to Next Wave this year. He will give a presentation on one either a detailed and indepth look at their facilities, aquaculture setups and procedures along with their breeding programs or a detailed look at the chain of custody of marine animals in the hobby and how it effects us as the end user. We are excited to welcome Kevin to the list at this years venue. More details on the presentation will be made as they become available.
